Thoose christmasfairs
As a PJ at a small local newspaper in Sweden you´re supposed to cover all kinds of small events, and one of thoose events are THE LOCAL FAIRS, I dont know the case in the rest of the world but in this part of the globe theres no end of the fairs. It´s new years fair, spring fair, easter fair, regular fair, midsummer fair, summer fair and so on. And all the little villages have there own fairs that we are supposed to cover.
Then it is the fair of all fairs, the christmas fair. They just go on and on and on. You can have like seven of them to cover in a weekend.
This weekend I just have to cover two. Two really small ones, and they are the toughest I think. But never the less, it´s an important task I think, covering theese events that the locals has spend all there free time to create some fun for their neighbours and friends.
Here´s a picture from one of this weekends christmas fairs, and I think (or hope) it shows just this, the locals having fun at the marketplace, meeting old friends and having a shat. In this pic its Stina and Irma ripping up lottery tickets on Rinkabyholms christmas fair in Kalmar. And they really seemed to have a nice time at the fair.

Longing for summer
It´s below zero (Celcius) in Kalmar today. I am freezing. I´ve been taking pics of floorball and christmastree salesmen the whole day. On my desktop I found this image and suddenly I felt this urge for the summer to come marching down the frosty street. I´m really longing for the summer now. Cold beers and barbeque parties. Snorkling and sunbathing, the smell of sunburned skin and so on... My god I love our swedish summers.

Lars Winnerbäck plays at Kalmar gymnasium
On Sunday evening, the famous swedish singer-songwriter Lars Winnerbäck gave a consert in Kalmar gymnasium.
We photographers are usally just allowed to photograph the first three songs, and what did Winnerbäck do?
He turned of the lights for approx. one and a half song. And no strobes were allowed. I for one think thats kind of funny. Well, I got some pics anyway.
I´m a big fan of Winnerbäck but could only stay for a few songs because of the deadline, but I think thoose who stayed got a really nice and warm evening.
Here´s some more pictures from the consert.
You can also find a few pictures of Lars on my website, in the music-gallery.

Some pics from the yearly rugby event in Kalmar, when some of the highschools meet up in the roughest of all school-event known to the citizens in Kalmar. School of Lars Kagg VS the schools of Stagnelius and Jenny Nyström.
Two games is played, one for men and one for women. Stagg/Jenny won both the titles.

Tuesdays work
So I´m back in buisness after the stay at the spa. One of the reporters wanted some pictures off politicians sitting on a pressconferense telling us that the community must save 75 million swedish crownes to manage this years spending plan, (or budget). I refused, and instead I went to a local nursing-home for elders. Consider that the politicians want to save the biggest amount of this 75 million on the elders I think theese two images gives the readers much more than the faces of two tired politicians that they´ve allready seen 2467 times this week in our paper (Östran).
What do you think? Did I do the right thing?

Then it was time for a portrait on two students at the school of navigation on the universety of Kalmar. Linda and Mikael is standing in the faked mashineroom of a cargoship, manovering the engines from a computerscreen.

Back from heaven
Now I am back from a few days in heaven, Ronneby Brunn Spa Hotell in Ronneby. It´s almost insane how relaxed you can be coming home from one of thoose weekends, or weekstart in this case. I am now in love with "floating", this is a wonderful way to relax, it´s a wonder for worned out necks and backs. When you´re floating in that salty water (25% salt) you are infact weihgtless, so your spine stretches out its full length and every muscle in your body will relax. Someone told me that 45 minutes in the closed, totaly black and waterfilled shuttle is equal to 8 hours of sleep for your body. I can strongly recommend this !
Well, heres my wife laughing at the dinnertable one of the evenings.

And heres my wife again. I saw the "flag-like" light in the corridor we walked in and quickly I grabbed hold on my Lumix and shot a frame. Nice I think.

Me and my Lumix-After work
Me, my Lumix and some colleagues went out partying after work on friday night. Fun. I came home with this strange picture. Kind of nice, I think. Kind of spoky.
Enough for now cause me and my wife are now going on a weekend on Ronneby Spa Hotell to relax, eat amazing dinners and just have a good time, far away from work and newsdesks.
But my little Lumix is stuffed into the bag of course...
Buy, of we go !

Rugby for tough ones
My god, that was difficult. I mean to photograph a bunch of fast swimming guys beneath the suface in a pool.
Yesterday it was time for me to dive down the bottom with my mark II, i´ve allready tested the borrowed Eva-Marine (as you can read in this entry) dd in the tub, but yet I was a bit edgy about the fact that I was going to throw my camera into a 14 feet deep pool. But hey, its insured!
The bag was sealed today to and I was ready to dive into the water. It was like ten years I diving so I think I looked like a bag of potatoes in the water.
It was really, REALLY hard to keep track to this fully skilled divers. They were so fast that as I got up for just a tiny bit of breath they all dissepeared to the other side, and there I stood (more like floating) at the emty side.
I found it almost impossible to find the trigger while under water, because the little finger"glove" for the triggerfinger was made of really thick plastic, I couldn´t feel it. I just fired away from my hip as I tried to get as deep as the rugbyplayers.
But it was fun, so fun that I decided that I´m going to follow the ladies in the mixed group, well its only the ladies that are competing, as they train to enter the swedish championship in UW-rugby. I think Its going to be a nice story.

No smoke without fire, or?
It was a very non-dramatic firealarm I went on today. Just the roaring sound from the fans that the firebrigade uses to remove smoke from the inside of the appartments with was heard as the firemen took a break waiting for the smoke to dissapear.

Mycket intressant diskussion
This one´s in swedish, sorry.
Läs mer i Adams serie "fakta VS fiktion".
Helt omedvetet må hända, men ändå.
God natt.

To the bottom with it
On tuesday I´m going to do a story on a couple of guys diving into a pool playing underwater rugby football. For that I have borrowed an Eva-Marine underwater housing (U-AXP) from a friend. He wasn´t sure its 100% sealed so what to do?
I told my son it was tub-time, he loves bathing, and then I pull down the housing in the bathtub and he did the rest to test the sealing...
Theres a little "glove" just for the triggerfinger, but the plastic is so thick so I cant really feel the trigger so for once its actually nice that the camera vibrates when the mirror opens.
I might buy one for myself, theres a lot of jobs you can do under water. Nice.
Regarding the test in the tub:
The camera was dry as a throat in the dessert !
